A Brief History of Plywood Minnesota

Home Valu Interiors was started in 1963 by Rudy Boschwitz & Drexel Interiors was started in 1957 by Conrad Drexel. In the beginning, Home Valu Interiors was called Plywood Minnesota. Through the early 60’s the company carried mostly plywood, lumber, and prefinished paneling. The concept was strictly cash and carry of do-it-yourself products. As Plywood Minnesota grew we began to carry more do-it-yourself products. Things like kitchen cabinets pre-pasted wallpaper. And we pioneered the retailing of do-it-yourself kitchen cabinets and pre-padded carpeting.

Over time, Plywood Minnesota evolved into other interior remodeling products. Today we carry products for kitchens, baths, walls, windows, and flooring. Brand names like Merillat cabinets, Formica countertops, Kohler bath products, Waverly wallcoverings, Hunter Douglas window blinds, Stainmaster and Weardated carpets, Armstrong, Mannington, and Congoleum vinyl flooring, and Bruce Hardwood floors. In 1978 Rudy Boschwitz successfully ran for the United States Senate. During that time Plywood Minnesota bought Drexel, a chain of retail stores in Milwaukee, Madison, and, and Indianapolis.
